Ninh Binh is a province situated on the Red River Delta. The province is around 90km from Hanoi and has an accessible transport system that makes traveling to and from the area easy. Nature has endowed this province with several scenic landscapes and renowned caves such as Bich Dong, Trang An, and Tam Coc. Ninh Binh also has other attractions namely the Phat Diem Cathedral, Kim Son, and Van Long Natural Reserve.

 

Ninh Binh shares the border with Nam Dinh and Hoa Binh to the north, Ha Nam province to the northeast, and Thanh Hoa to the south and west. The province has a short coastline along the Gulf of Tonkin. Ninh Binh is home to 915,727 residents and a total area of 1,329.4 square kilometers. The province is just outside National Highway 1A, the North-South rail system, and ports that connect to rivers and oceans which make it convenient for domestic and international trade.

Ninh Binh experiences tropical weather which is hot and rainy from May to October, and a bit cold from November to April. The average rainfall in the province is 1,700mm to 1,800mm, and the average temperature is 23⁰C.

Ninh Binh is also rich in forest resources. The province has 19,033 hectares of forests which includes 13,633.2 hectares of natural reserves and 5,387 hectares of plantations. Ninh Binh also has a coastline of around 17km and limestone reserves of 12,000 hectares. This area is a vital source for the development of construction materials namely bricks, tiles, and cement.

Ninh Binh is a vital point between the north and south. There are three ways to get to Ninh Binh which are by rail, waterway, or road. Tourists who visit Ninh Binh also have plenty of opportunities to travel to different attractions namely Phat Diem Cathedral, Van Long Natural Reserve, and Tam Coc-Bich Dong. Tam Coc-Bich Dong is regarded as "Nam thien de nhi dong" by the locals or “Halong on Land”. The province also has other noteworthy attractions such as the Thai Vi Temple, Tien Pagoda, Bich Dong Pagoda, and Linh Coc Pagoda. Tourists can also visit Cuc Phuong National Park which is an old growth forest that covers 22,000 hectares and is home to a diverse ecosystem of plants and animals. With the many attractions in Ninh Binh, the province is visited by thousands of foreign and local tourists.

Ninh Binh was also a former capital of Dai Co, Vietnam from 968 to 1010. The province’s rich history and ancient past has left behind numerous relics namely the Hoa Lu ancient capital, Phat Diem Cathedral, and Non Nuoc Pagoda. All of these interesting and historic locations have attracted local and foreign tourists to the province.

According to data gathered in December 31st, 2005, Ninh Binh contains 125 relics that are of national importance. The province has completed a dossier that was sent to UNESCO to recognize historical locations such as the Hoa Lu ancient capital, and Cuc Phuong Natural Park and Trang An Caves as natural world heritage sites.

The province also has budding ecotourism that offers authentic homestays for visitors who want to experience life in the region. The developing ecotourism in the province gave Ninh Binh reasons to revitalize traditional craft villages to enrich its cultural heritage for tourism.

Ninh Binh has Trang An, which is in the final stages of submitting dossiers for recognition as an UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. The province is also a converging point of different kinds of religion because of three feudal dynasties and major shifts in its history.

Ninh Binh also has tasty dishes that will leave you wanting more. Get a taste of delicious goat meat, Kim Son wine, Ninh Binh’eel vermicelli, and burnt rice. The province is known for its delicious goat meat. Goat meat is served with a variety of precious herbs which provide health benefits.
