Sapa is situated in northern Vietnam. It is a part of Lao Cai province which has plenty of hidden wonders perfect for nature lovers. Sapa has a nice mix of natural beauty and man-made wonders. Sapa has scenic mountains, lush forests, and fantastic landscapes. Sapa is around 350km northwest of Hanoi and is near the border of China.


Sapa stands 1500m to 1650m above sea level. The province has plenty of natural resources, cool and fresh air. The weather is a bit dry and rainy in the summer and foggy with rare snowfall once winter arrives. Sapa has temperate weather which gives it four seasons in the year. The yearly average temperature in town is 15.4°C, with the coldest at 1°C and the hottest at 29.4°C.

Sapa is home to numerous ethnic groups that total 36,000 residents. Each ethnic minority wears a different costume, distinct culture, unique customs, different way of life, and their own methods of farming. Sapa is home to six ethnic minorities, each group has their own festivals and culture namely ‘Roong Poc’ of Giay, ‘Tet Jump’ of the Dao Do, and the ‘Sai San’ of the H’Mong.

Sapa is also home to the highest mountains in Vietnam, Mount Fan Si Pan stands 3,142m above sea level. Aside from Mount Fan Si Pan, visitors can also go to Mount Ham Rong. The mountain has a spectacular view overlooking the town and views of Muong Hoa Valley, Cat Cat, Lao Chai, Ta Phin, Ta Van, and Sapa masked in mist and fog. Touring around Sapa lets visitors see the old church in town and the attractions in Ta Phin. 12km west of Sapa, tourists can catch a glimpse of the Silver Waterfall in Lai Chau. The waterfall has a height of 200m. Sapa also has several unique fruits and vegetables that tourists can taste, such as peach, purple plum, and peach blossoms. Sapa has a Sunday fair that has music, fun, food, and stores. The Mong and Dao perform their folk songs during the Sunday fair.
